10 months old!

Miles has been battling a bit of a cold lately; minor coughing and lots of um, nose discharge. But he's doing pretty well otherwise. I've felt a third tooth, on the top left. Here he is:

Happy 10-month birthday, Sweet Boy!

Exploring the kitchen

I think every parent has a photo like this one:

In particular, Miles loves the salad spinners; there's the full-size one, and the "junior" version. We have a house full of toys, but the most interesting things to him are, in no particular order: (1) knobs and handles, (2) strings, (3) light switches while I'm holding him, (4) feet and shoes, (5) cardboard boxes, and (6) tassels on area rugs.

Miles is quick enough that I can't leave him alone for too long anymore. One time I went to the bathroom to put something away, and he had crawled across the bedroom into the bathroom, where he wanted to lick the sink. Ewww!

Hope everyone's (almost) summer is grand!

Vermont

Miles & I have just returned from a conference (mine) in Vermont. Grandma Martha accompanied us so I could attend the conference (International Symposium on Society & Resource Management). Grandma Kathy met us, and I believe a grand time was had by all. We stayed at a lovely B&B just two blocks from campus, and four blocks from downtown. Miles was wonderful!

Miles survived six hours of plane delays at Newark Airport; I am not understating what a great baby he was on the plane. We owe it to the flight attendant who allowed us to bring the carseat on board, even though we didn't pay for the seat; and the kind man who graciously moved to accommodate Miles.

These aren't the greatest photos...Miles was transfixed by this string quartet on Church Street in Burlington. I took very few photos because I was at the conference, and here's another one of him in front of the crepe stand.

Chicken and carrots

Miles loves shredded chicken and steamed carrots! Notice the chomping noises:

So many new things!

Miles has had so many milestones lately: just today, he started pulling himself up with his arms, though his legs aren't strong enough to support himself yet. He can get into a sitting position from his tummy, which I discovered a couple of mornings ago. He can't be left alone for too long anymore, as he's quite the fast scooter! I felt his second tooth this morning, which explains his unusual fussiness that past few days. Miles is babbling a lot more, and we "practice" his Ms...ma ma ma ma...

Miles loves chicken, and is eating more food now; I'll give him small chunks of banana, avocado, chicken, or a rice cracker, in addition to jarred baby food.

What else? He consistently looks for dropped objects, and though he can't stack blocks up, he likes to knock them down. Here's a video of him: isn't he a good sitter?
